The issue about violence against women has always been alarming. It has always been present throughout the years. The violence may come in various forms that are equally hurtful and traumatic. According to UN Women, “Globally, an estimated 736 million women—almost one in three—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life (30 per cent of women aged 15 and older).” The said figure does not include sexual harassment. Evidently, the action of fighting violence against all women and girls is a must. Here are some ways to eliminate violence against all women and girl according to UN Women.

The Idiyanale Empowerment Movement highly encourages everyone, together with us, to be an instrument in achieving elimination of violence against all women and girls. The best step in eliminating violence is public awareness. Public awareness enables the government and the leaders to take action. It is a good way to urge them to provide further restrictions, rules, or laws in line with any form of violence. Ask for urgent response upon the continuous rise of cases about violence against women and girls. Do not be afraid to propose and protest for a change. Develop campaigns and organize awareness projects like programs, symposium and any forms of educating the people.Furthermore, make use of the technology to bring awareness towards a wider audience. Engage to posts and contents in line with eliminating violence against women. Read credible information about it and ensure to share it towards other people. There are no exceptions for educating others, therefore it is a good action to educate people at a young age and as soon as possible. It is important to educate oneself and others.

There are other ways to take action in ending violence against women and girls. Be someone who is accessible for help. It is relevant to listen and stand with the survivors of assault. Always remember to not engage with victim blaming. Be somebody who can give her a safe space especially whenever she needs to speak up and be heard. Furthermore, do not be hesitant to call for response and services. It is relevant to provide help, especially essential services to survivors. May it be services in the form of hotlines, counseling, guidance and support towards those in need of such services.

Another thing, educate everyone about the importance of understanding consent. According to UN Women, “there are no blurred lines for consent.” Ensure that active “yes” is present rather than simply looking for a “no”. The consent is a must from everyone without giving any pressure or threats towards the other party. In line with consent, it must be also informed. Consent must be asked for every interaction and not simply because one was permitted the last time of doing so. Furthermore, consent can also be revoked. There are circumstances that blurred lines about consent leads to victim blaming and excusing the perpetrators upon the crimes they committed. Therefore, consent is a must in every interaction.

Furthermore, learn the signs of abuse and how you can help. Whenever you know someone who may have experiences of violence, review the signs and learn how to help them find safety and support. Give a hand and be willing to help them. Make them feel comfortable with you and encourage them to ask for help. If you are experiencing it, do not be afraid to ask for help. In addition, everyone should always to listen to the victim and give the support they need.

The Idiyanale Empowerment Movement urges everyone, together with us, to walk the talk of the said ways in achieving the elimination of violence against women and girls. Action is a must to fight against the said societal issue.
