Period poverty and stigma is a problem faced by girls that directly impact their health, education , and emotional well-being.

This phenomenon can be understood as women’s lack of access to menstrual health products, lack of education about menstrual health, and lack of infrastructure for related waste management as stated by the NGO Plan International. This problem has worsen when the pandemic came, whereof, women and girls are forced to prioritize other necessary expenses over menstrual products. This is one of the roots of social inequalities, women are faced with cruel realities due to the myths that stigmatize menstruation, such as considering women as impure during their menstruation, considered bad luck, etc. Because of this, many women and girls experience anxiety due to the lack of awareness when it comes to such matters. Furthermore, social inequalities deter the resources that help to manage menstruation in a healthy and dignified way.
